created by me, Rose Monzyk.
My work with the brush comes from inspiration recieved from my love of my small hometown of Washington, Missouri. Washington is a great little town located on the southernmost tip of the Missouri River. Vacation trips have also provided inspiration. I had expressed an interest in learning to paint, remembering how much I enjoyed art class in school. My husband presented me with a set of oils for Christmas one year and I was on my way. I find myself drawn to the angles and strength in buildings and structures. In the Steeple Chase series, the steeples speak to me of faith and steadfastness. The Missouri River Bridge is another favorite subject. I enjoy experimenting with mediums and techniques. I hope you can find something that speaks to your heart the way it did to mine when I created it.
A love of hats inspired the treck into millinery. Hats beckon a simpler, slower time when ladies were ladies. The feel of the fabrics shaping in my hands inspires me. I've loved fabric, color and texture all my life. Sewing doll clothes by hand when I was too young to use a machine was my first experience with this creativity. I love the entire process, from the picture in my head, to blocking the buckram and fabrics, to choosing a lining and selecting the embellishments. My designs are one of a kind, with exception of the design your own series where you select from the various options. Sometimes I see the entire hat in my mind before I start. Other times I'm inspired by a fabric and begin. Then it speaks to me from there. Usually, there are at least six creations going on at any one time. I invite you to enjoy my designs and imagine yourself at a tea or luncheon feeling perfectly feminine.
At this time, my wedding dress designs are not pictured. It is another love of mine. Soon we'll have photos and ideas up on the site.
My work has been recognized by local artists, shops and galleries. They are all expressions of a need within me to create and bring something of beauty to the world. I encourage you to try something new this year. I feel that is part of my calling in this work.
